I NUMBED LIKE WE ALL DO THROUGH A MYRIAD OF WAYS AND YEARS KEPT PASSING ME BY. AT FIRST, I ENGROSSED MYSELF FULLY IN MY CORPORATE CAREER. I HAD NO SOUL CONNECTION TO OTHER THAN IT’S WHAT SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO, I HAD TO DEPRECIATE ALL THIS EDUCATION, RIGHT?
Honestly, my stress levels and energy depletion were so high that I had 2 massage therapists, a physical therapist and a chiropractor on speed dial to address the tension I would build up weekly. I recall periods where I had hair loss, 2 bulging discs, carpel tunnel and definitely a solid bottle of red each night. All while, ordering in nightly cause who had time to cook, drowning myself in Netflix as I swiped left and right on the latest dating app.
After successfully living on autopilot, I became an observer of my life and realized I had forgotten my core values, and that I needed to start making changes. Because if I was planning on impacting the world in any positive way, it started with me.
Listen, I will be the first to admit I never had the classic goals of owning a home and having the conventional American dream life. That said, I still signed up for performing the tried and tested check boxes of an accomplishing immigrant daughter; master’s educated, working in high powered NYC and attaining financial success. Outwardly, it looked good until it wasn’t.
